Established in 1983 under the able leadership of Dr. Thangjam Dhabali Singh, BABINA Diagnostics (formerly BABINA Diagnostic Centre) is a premier diagnostic laboratory in the state. The centre, which started off as a small-scale clinical laboratory providing basic investigations is now a multifarious diagnostic clinic with facilities for a wide range of tests, including Radiological investigations. Equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology and methodologies, and with nearly four decades of experience, the centre is a household name in the Northeast and, arguably, the best medical laboratory in this part of the country.
The centre caters to more than three lakh patients annually and has on its rolls medical professionals of high caliber belonging to various healthcare disciplines – Pathology, Radiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, etc. supported by highly skilled and experienced technicians. Its operations are managed by a team of professionals at its Corporate Office representing various functional areas – Sales and Marketing, Accounts and Administration, Customer Care, Systems Management, Report Checking and Sorting, Housekeeping, etc. In 2007, it achieved the rare distinction of becoming the first laboratory in the Northeast to be accredited by NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories). With the setting up of its second unit at Porompat, Imphal East which started its operations from June 2012, BABINA Diagnostics can easily stake its claim as the biggest diagnostic centre in Eastern India. In terms of the range of equipment installed and facilities available, the centre is certainly one of the biggest in the entire country.
The new unit at Porompat is a stylish centrally air-conditioned building with spacious waiting lounge for patients, ample parking space and cafeteria. Some of the equipment installed include 1.5 Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT Scanner, Mammography, DEXA Scanner ,Digital X-Ray and many fully automated analyzers for Haematology, Clinical Chemistry, and Clinical pathology, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Immunohistochemistry Studies .The centre also has a pneumatic sample transportation system for facilitating easy transportation of samples between lab floors. With facility for downloading of reports from the internet by patients, BABINA Diagnostics has all the facilities at par with the best diagnostic labs in the country.

Quality Assurance

BABINA Diagnostics is the first medical laboratory in the Northeast to be accredited by NABL. The Quality Policy pursued by the Centre is an ongoing process and a stringent Quality Assurance System has been implemented that fulfils the ISO15189:2012 standards as per the Requirements/Guidelines of NABL.

External Quality Control:
Based on its consistently reliable performance with Quality Service, BABINA Diagnostics was recognised as a National Reference Laboratory by the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (IAPM) and is an active participant of the National Quality Control Program conducted by IAPM. The centre is also an active participant in External Quality Assurance Programs conducted regularly by Bio-RAD EQAS, USA and of proficiency testing programmes conducted by CMC Vellore, RML-QAP Lucknow, IAMM New Delhi and QC Mark Vadodara.

Internal Quality Control:
Complying with the standard protocols of national and international guidelines, Quality Control samples are run every day at pre-determined intervals before the commencement of testing of actual patient samples. Results are checked for compliance with Westgard rules using LJ charts target CV%. Thereafter, Departmental Heads of the different laboratory sections along with Senior Technicians review Levey Jenning control charts every day to detect specific areas that require improvement.
